Activities

Tennis

For tennis fans there are many good tennis courts close by, the best being opposite Kingston Lodge at Xavier Sports & Country Club
(6 outdoor courts and 1 indoor court). Also available at Xavier is swimming, fishing and ten pin bowling. It also has a
good restaurant and bar.

The island also has many other attractions including hot and cold springs, waterfalls and volcanoes.  Your family will not be bored while you are exploring the wrecks and coral reefs around the island.

White Water Rafting

Take a trip down the Cagayan de Oro River and enjoy striking panoramic views of towering rock walls and untouched vegetation which are the resting haven of monkeys. Add to that the thrills and challenges of breathtaking rapids and you have an experience never to be forgotten.

The trip will include being picked up from Kingston Lodge in a jeepney, an adventure in itself, to take you to the launch site where you will experience the thrill of a lifetime by shooting the rapids. Helmets and life jackets are provided. Between the rapids you can leave the raft and float serenely down river observing the natural flora and fauna. At the end of the ride you will be given lunch before returning to the Lodge.

Caves

There are over 80 known caves many of which are unexplored. Macahambus cave which is only 15 minutes from Kingston Lodge  is home to the split nose bat and leads to a veranda overlooking the Cagayan river. 200 metres away is the Macahambus Gorge where there is a flight of over 100 steps leading down to a place where an underground river comes out from one cave and into another.

The Huluga cave about 5 miles south of the City is where skeletal remains of a woman and child were found dating back 1,600 years B.C.
Caving and Abseiling are all readily available from local tour and travel guides, and can be booked through the Lodge.

Ten Pin Bowling

If you like ten pin bowling it is available at the only bowling alley in Cagayan De Oro City at Xavier Sports & Country Club opposite Kingston Lodge. It has 8 lanes with computerized scoring. It costs 180Php ($3.60) per hour and shoes can be hired. There is also a pool table available and a bar service.

Things to Do and See

Gardens of Malasag Eco-Tourism Village.
Eco Village is a cultural village in a botanical garden setting. It is a showcase for the region’s tribal communities and indigenous  plants and trees. It features guest cottages, swimming pool, picnic area, butterfly garden, native restaurant and much more, with great views across the bay.

Malasag Canopy Walk

Situated above Eco Village in a lush virgin rainforest you can experience the thrill of walking above the canopy of trees, seeing and hearing many species of birds and get a bird’s eye view of Mother Nature. You can also go river trekking and swim beneath the forest’s cascading waterfalls. There are picnic areas and horse riding is available.

Catanico Falls.

The falls are about 6 miles from the City not far from Eco Village. The falls drop into a swimming pool surrounded by huge boulders and beautiful scenery. There are picnic areas available with cottages but the best is sitting on top of the huge rocks with views of the falls and the river as it meanders downstream. A great place for a picnic.

Jasaan Falls

Pronounced Hasa-an, these falls and springs drop into man-made swimming pools with diving board and water slides. The continuously flowing fresh cool water makes it a great place to swim.

Beaches

Throughout the Philippines there are hundreds of beautiful beaches with Borocay being named the best beach in the world. They offer unlimited aqua adventures such as diving, dolphin and whale watching, windsurfing etc. Or find a quiet hideaway and relax in the shade of a palm tree with an ice cold drink.

There are good swimming beaches within 30 minutes drive from the lodge and really fine beaches 1-1 ½  hours away.

Shopping

There are several shopping malls in the city plus many individual shops where you can purchase local crafts. There are some very good clothes shops and you can also buy hand made leather shoes and sandals at bargain prices. There are also 2 main markets where everything is available from fresh fruit and vegetables to locally caught fish,

Restaurants

There are literally hundreds of places to eat, everything from the small stalls on the street to fancy restaurants. All kinds of food are available from Philippine dishes to western style food, and prices can be as low as 50Php ($1) for something like barbequed chicken and rice. There are also restaurants serving all you-can-eat buffets from 99Php ($2) Also all the usual fast foods are available such as McDonald’s, KFC and Pizza Hut. We would advise when eating out to only drink bottled mineral water.

Night Life

There are many clubs and bars and discos offering live music or karaoke. Filipinos are very musical and they love to sing. Karaoke machines are found all over the city in all kinds of establishments, from bars to the car wash. Live bands can be heard in several clubs and bars. One of the favorite places to go is the Night Café in Divisoria.  On Friday and Saturday nights the streets are closed and many stalls are set up selling all kinds of food and drink, plus a wide range of other wares from shoes to jewelry. Live bands play most of the evening. Night Café is open until 2 am. It’s a great place to just sit with a cold drink and observe the locals who throng there to meet and have fun. Another good venue is The Limketkai Center where there are numerous shops, restaurants, discos and coffee bars. You can enjoy a meal in one of the restaurants then sit outside with a coffee and listen to one of the live bands.

If you like adult entertainment then check out Spooks in Pacana Street. It’s owned and run by an English guy (Mike) and a lot of ex pats meet there from around 6pm onwards. On Friday afternoons there is an eat all you can buffet for 150 Php ($3) from 4pm until 7pm. The show starts at 9pm every night with a bevy of beautiful girls. So for a great night out try ‘Spooks’.
